Local Man Sets World Record: Eats The Most Bacon

Can you stomach this? A new bacon world record was just set by Matt Stonie, a professional Major League Eater from San Jose, CA, ranked second best in the world. The 19-year-old, who weighs only 120 pounds, set a bacon-eating world record at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona, Florida today (Feb. 22) by devouring 182 slices of bacon in five minutes. If that doesn't make your arteries feel clogged, Stonie told HuffPost he estimated the 182 pieces weighed over 6 pounds, which means he ate over a pound of bacon per minute!

"The bacon was cooked just the way I like it -- a little crispy because I don't like having to chew it," said Stonie to HuffPost following the competition. "I don't feel that bad. I'm used to 10 or 12 minute contests, where I'm eating 10 or 15 pounds of food. I came into this prepared."

After setting the world record, Stonie took to Twitter to share his accomplishment:

As indicated in his tweet, he consumed Smithfield bacon, and at 182 slices, that's 7,280 calories and 28,210 milligrams of sodium. While this much bacon might make most of us want to take a break from pork, Stonie seemed unfazed, explaining, "I love bacon. It goes with everything."
