Forty percent of children born in the United States in 2013, over one and a half million children, were born to unmarried women. Despite mothers' best efforts, statistics show that children raised by single mothers suffer in a variety of ways; the mothers themselves are plagued by feelings of guilt and inadequacy and often find themselves living at or below the poverty line. Single mothers and their children need our help. Not our pity, or our handouts, but a hand up.
