Philadelphia Man Receiving New Prosthetic Leg To Replace His Stolen Limb

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A Philadelphia man is receiving a new artificial leg after he says someone stole his first one from a moving van that had been parked outside his home.

WCAU-TV reports Michael Stauffer suffered a bone infection and had to have his leg amputated.

He says his insurance covered a titanium leg six months ago. The prosthetic limb was provided by Lawall Prosthetic & Orthotic Services.

But Stauffer says his insurance won't pay for another $28,000 leg after Stauffer says his first one was stolen earlier this month.

Now the prosthetic limb provider says it is helping Stauffer get a new leg. Stauffer was fitted on Wednesday and is poised to receive it on Thursday.

Police are still looking for the culprit.
