Around $100,000 Raised For Typhoon Victims

Good Day, CBS13 and CBS Radio stations hosted an all-day Red Cross Relief Telethon for victims of by Typhoon Haiyan.

Volunteers from the Red Cross manned phones, and thanks to a truly generous outpouring of support from viewers, approximately $100,000 was raised for the Typhoon Haiyan Relief effort!

Our television stations led the way with more than $620,000 being raised in our region. Aside from members of the Filipino community, many local celebrities also answered phones, including former major league baseball coach Dusty Baker, Judge Judy's Baliff Petri Byrd and mayors of many surrounding cities as well as members of a grateful Filipino community.

The American Red Cross will send this help to the millions impacted by the natural disaster.

The money goes toward immediate basics such as food, clean water and shelter. People will need assistance for months as the country rebuilds, following the deadly typhoon. We also partnered with CBS Radio and had a live camera and truck outside the CBS Radio building during the event where Red Cross officials were on hand to take donations as well.

Radio talent, when available, interacted with the public as they arrived.
