Best Bars With Jukeboxes In Sacramento

By Juliet Farmer

It's a great thing to be able to enjoy a cocktail while you listen to the kind of music you like, be it country, rap, rock, or even Motown. Luckily, you don't have to sit at home to be able to do so, since there are a handful of bars in Sacramento that provide jukeboxes for your listening pleasure. Jukeboxes range from the real deal that plays actual records to a five-foot-tall jukebox that resembles an iPod at the best bars with jukeboxes in Sacramento.

Pre-Flite Lounge
513 L Street, #9
Sacramento, CA
(916) 441-7963
Hours: Mon to Wed 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Thur to Fri 11:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m., Sun 2 p.m. to 10
p.m. (closed Saturdays)

Pre-Flite Lounge is the only bar I know of in Sacramento that has a jukebox that plays nothing but vinyl. Better yet, that vinyl is heavy on the 60s and 70s, with barely any 80s and nothing of the past three decades to speak of. In other words, you will not have to tolerate rap, hip-hop, or pop music at this bar. What you will hear is Elvis, Roy Rogers, Sinatra, Stevie Wonder, Tony Bennett, The Rolling Stones, Queen, Pink Floyd, Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, and the Platters. This ASCAP- (that's American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, FYI) certified Seeburg jukebox will only set you back $1 for 10 songs, and is likely to make you wish you'd held on to your turntable from back in the day.

Old Tavern Bar & Grill
1510 20th Street
Sacramento, CA
(916) 444-5595
Hours: Daily 6 a.m. to 2 a.m.
Facebook page

When you're done petting Old Tavern's resident bar cat, head over to the back and check out the View Interactive Entertainment Ecast Internet jukebox, where music options run the gamut from AC/DC to The Who, with pretty much everything in between. This jukeboxes offers preloaded playlists, including those dedicated to Kid Rock, "Glee," hot hip-hop, Top 40, and more. Among the top artists played on Old Tavern's jukebox, you'll find OneRepublic, Katy Perry, Maroon 5, the Naked & the Famous, and Foster the People. Prices are $.50 per song.

Hideaway Bar & Grill
2565 Franklin Blvd.
Sacramento, CA
(916) 455-1331
Hours: Mon to Fri 4 p.m. to 2 a.m.; Sat 12 p.m. to 2 a.m.; Sun 10 a.m. to 2 a.m.

Hideaway Bar & Grill may be off the beaten path (it's tucked away near Curtis Park), but don't let that stop you from heading over any night of the week to eat, drink, and listen to the Rowe AMI Phono Select jukebox full of CDs. At Hideaway, you can listen to "The Best of David Bowie," "Who's Greatest Hits," Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash, Ray Charles, The Velvet Underground, The Pixies, Bob Marley & the Wailers, Amy Winehouse, and more. Tunes will set you back $1 for three selections, $2 for six, and $5 for 20.

Dive Bar
1022 K Street
Sacramento, CA
(916) 737-5770
Hours: Daily 3 p.m. to 2 a.m.

Dive Bar has by far the most unique way to play the tunes you want to hear, via a giant fabricated iPod dock. Simply bring in your own iPod, connect it to the dock, and listen to what you like. (Warning: If management deems any of your music/songs inappropriate, they will bang a gong – literally - and unplug your device.)

Chargin's Bar & Grill
4900 J Street
Sacramento, CA
(916) 454-1524
Hours: Daily 6 a.m. – 2 a.m.

The jukebox at Chargin's Bar & Grill is smaller than most, but thanks to the Internet and today's technology, allows users to build playlists from home and then go down to the bar to listen to them. The TouchTunes Virtu jukebox has a little something for everyone, too, from "Hotel California" by the Eagles, to "Out Last Night" by Kenny Chesney, to "Pumped up Kicks" by Foster the People. If you like 80s music, you can listen to a-ha, and if you're a sharp-dressed man, you can even play some ZZ Top. Preloaded playlists include the best of Michael Jackson, best of Bon Jovi, and a sampling of various old school hip-hop artists. Tunes here will cost you $.50 each.
