Ask A Sacramento Fashionista: Hottest Fall 2015 Fashion Trends

Josie Lee is the owner of Sacramento's popular clothing boutique RIRE, which began as a pop-up shop inside East Sac Mercantile. In 2014, she added a full boutique in Midtown that quickly became a go-to destination for fashion lovers all over the region. Her creativity, vision and hard work continue to pay off — Lee is expanding her successful small business into Davis.

Josie Lee understands that women want stylish apparel that makes them look and feel good, without spending a fortune to do so. For RIRE, Lee chooses fun clothing, jewelry and accessories created by fair trade and small-scale fashion designers. The savvy fashionista earned a bachelor's degree in business from CSUS, and her specialized studies in international business and marketing continue to help her find the best for her customers. The new RIRE location in Davis just opened, but Lee invites the public to the store's grand opening party on Sept. 19, 2015 from 5 - 8 p.m. Special deals, food, drinks and a DJ are just part of the fun. There will be a fashion show featuring handpicked styles that are perfect for students. "They want to look nice but be comfy," says Lee, adding that the show will include women's clothing appropriate for walking or biking to class.

Time Travel

That 70s show will be on the catwalks this fall with the return of retro styles such as flared pants and cool and funky bell-bottoms. Faux fur in various colors, which add style without excessive weight, will be used as accents on tops and coats. Lee says that even retro fabrics, like corduroy, will be part of the scene. Another material, seen less frequently on recent runways, will also be back. "It will be nice to see suede again," notes Lee, praising its rich colors and wearability.

Glam It Up

Lee predicts a resurgence of big bling, with jewelry that is larger, shinier and more girly than in recent seasons. Look for pieces with rhinestones and glittery broaches, which Lee says, "will make great accessories." The tribal, geometric, angular and Aztec jewelry styles of summer will be gone, just like the scorching mid-year heat.

Cool And Cozy

Layering is always in, and Lee says, "midi-skirts, especially for work, are nice for autumn." When choosing outerwear, go for fashion-forward long jackets that go past the knees. "This is such a huge flip," notes Lee, from the "shorter, more fitted coats" seen in the past. As for the fall color palette, look for styles in vibrant jewel-tones and purple. "Rich mustard tones are gaining more popularity," she says, "and burnt orange is great in suede." Fabric-wise, "there will be more solids and some stripes, but less mini-prints."

Out With The Old And In With The Shoe

Fashionable footwear for the fall season will include ankle boots, either flats or ones with tall, chunky heels. These looks are flattering and attractive, while remaining comfortable and easy to wear. "Not so many combat boots or knee-high boots," says Lee.

Autumnal Accessories Are In

"No more tiny, over-the-shoulder purses," Lee says, adding that "big statement purses" will be the go-to for handbags. There will be lots of accessories used, including the bright and blingy jewelry and weather-perfect chunky scarves.
