App Tracks College Students' Attendance

Students who think they can slack off when they get to college will have to think again. A new app called Class120 tells parents and professors if students aren't getting to class, according to USA Today.

Jeff Whorley, whose company, Core Principle Inc., created the app, tells the news agency U.S. college students spend more than $31 billion annually on tuition for classes they don't attend. On average, students report that they don't attend about 20% of classes throughout their collegiate career.

The app costs $17.99 a month or $199 a year. It doesn't monitor a student's whereabouts 24 hours a day, but checks to see if they're in class. If they aren't, it will alert a parent, professor or college administrator.
