Forecast: Weekend Off To Beautiful Start

The holiday weekend is off to a picture-perfect start, with sunny skies across northern California on Friday, and a pleasant afternoon high temperature of 80 degrees.

Look for a repeat of the sunny and mild weather again on Saturday.

Beginning Sunday, some clouds will start to drift in from the north, with the chance of showers up around Plumas County, Mount Shasta, and over the crest of the Sierra. Valley highs will dip slightly – into the upper 70s.

For Memorial Day Monday, the weather takes a significant turn. Showers will spread into northern California with a 40% chance of rain in Sacramento. We should still see glimpses of sunshine, but temperatures will be much cooler, topping out at around 70 degrees.

People traveling or recreating in foothills and Sierra should be prepared for rapidly changing conditions there Sunday night into Monday.

Here's a special note from the National Weather Service regarding the changing conditions:

"HIKERS...BACKPACKERS AND OTHER OUTDOOR ENTHUSIASTS ARE ADVISED TO
BE PREPARED FOR THE MUCH COOLER AND MORE UNSETTLED WEATHER FOR
EARLY NEXT WEEK. CONDITIONS MAY BE QUITE WET AT TIMES...
ESPECIALLY IN THE NORTHERN SIERRA NEVADA. SNOW LEVELS WILL REMAIN
HIGH BUT SOME ACCUMULATION IS LIKELY ACROSS THE HIGHER PEAKS."

Cooler, showery weather will continue through the first half of next week.
