Style Files: Who Wore Punk Best At The Met Gala?

The stars went punk at the Metropolitan Museum of Art (Met) Gala in New York City on Monday (May 6). But how punk rock did they really go?

Some stars wore leather, while others wore lace--all black of course. Some even dared to wear spikes (beware of Cameron Diaz's sharp belt) or safety pins, like Carey Mulligan, whose black Balenciaga dress used one as a fastener.

Lots of stars had fun with their makeup, channeling their inner Debbie Harry, who herself donned an all-black ensemble from Tommy Hilfiger.

Below we grade a few different looks from stars that dared to go punk.

Miley Cyrus in Marc Jacobs

With bleached spikes and a see through mesh ensemble, Miley said she was a “punk rock Morticia.” That’s a good way to describe this very extreme look. It seems Miley really can’t be tamed.

GRADE: A+

Katy Perry in Dolce & Gabbana

For Katy’s golden look she channeled Joan of Arc, one of history's greatest punks. We appreciate the California Girl's nod to anti-establishment (very punk rock), but her look is a little more Medieval Times than The Ramones.

GRADE: B+
