Graffiti Artist Falls From I-80 Overpass To His Death

SACRAMENTO (CBS13/AP) - Friends and family gathered Sunday to remember a self-proclaimed local artist who died after falling off a Sacramento overpass.

The group set up a makeshift memorial in north Sacramento where, police say, 22-year-old Andre Petkov fell off the Interstate 80 overpass while spray-painting graffiti.

Investigators found Petkov's body Sunday morning below the overpass near Winters Street.

Friends say he never tagged public property, however, Petkov was convicted in 2009 for vandalism in connection with a group accused of about 300 cases of tagging that caused $80,000 in property damage. Police say Petkov used the tag "nose" and "bape."

"He never really wanted to disrespect anyone or anything that's not his," said Danil Okunee, Petkov's friend. "He would draw his own murals in his backyard."

Petkov went missing a couple of days before his body was discovered.
