Kings: Rumor Of Team Being Sold To Seattle 'Simply Not True'

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - Rumors circulated Wednesday morning saying the Kings' owners sold the team, not to Virginia Beach, but to an investor who would move the team to Seattle.

Sports Illustrated is said to have first reported news of the rumor after Daina Falk, daughter of NBA agent David Falk, tweeted that the Maloofs had sold the team. The tweet has since been deleted.

There were unconfirmed reports that the potential buyer is Seattle investor Chris Hansen.

"The rumors regarding the team being sold are simply not true," said a Kings spokesman.

Maloofs spokesman Eric Rose said of the rumor: "As we have said for nearly a year, we have been contacted by several cities and parties interested in the Sacramento Kings organization. The announcement yesterday from Virginia Beach does not change our long-held position that we will not comment on rumors or speculation about the franchise."

Seattle has been trying to fill the void in the city after the Sonics moved to Oklahoma City.
