First Storm Of The Season Hits

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – People living in and around the Sacramento area are in for a wet and windy commute Monday morning as a storm moves across Northern California.

Rain is falling in the valley, with the heaviest part of the storm in Davis and Dixon. It's expected to taper off a little at around 9 a.m. this morning. A cold front will move in, clearing out some of the more wide-spread, heavy rain, but keeping it cool and gusty with the chance of thunderstorms, in addition to showers, heading into the afternoon.

At around 6:45 a.m. Monday winds were gusting up to 20-25 mph in downtown Sacramento.

CBS13's Titan Radar picked up a big downpour near Wheatland, approaching Nevada City.

In the mountains, snow was falling at the 5,000-foot level, with six to 12 inches expected to fall on Monday. Higher locations should expect one to two feet of snowfall. Blowing snow will make travel difficult in these regions.

The CHP urges drivers to use caution as the rain is collecting on the roads, and is bringing oil to the surface.

Stockton and Modesto have not seen rain yet today, but they are expected to have rain later this week.

A second round of moisture is expected to arrive on Wednesday.

Temperatures will stay under 70 degrees for the remainder of the week.
