Best Ceviche In Sacramento

Pressing limes, chopping up eye-watering onions and slicing up fish. The sights and sounds of making ceviche are alive and well in the streets and restaurants of Sacramento. Even our local food trucks sell them, but oftentimes with a Mexican twist served on a flat tostada. Just because Sacramento is thousands of miles away from Peru doesn't mean you can't find some great tasting ceviche. Here are a couple of places worth checking out.
Las Islitas

Sacramento, CA 95822

It's always a good sign when a restaurant hands you free ceviche plated next to a bed of tostada shells once you sit down. This Nayarit style seafood cuisine is pretty authentic to the area according to some reviewers. Since you've already got your taste for their ceviche, it would behoove you to try out their Ceviche de Pescado. Served in a bowl with fresh fish strips marinated in lime juice with the ceviche carefully mixed in right before serving, the taste is super fresh and packs a punch. Cleanse your pallet with one of their Agua Frescas, and feel free to order another round.

Zocalo
1801 Capitol Ave.
Sacramento, CA 95811
(916) 441-0303

Highly rated, oftentimes recommended, located in the heart of downtown Sacramento, and with a happy hour that runs seven days a week, Zocalo isn't just a place for great ceviche, it's also a great hangout. But if you're particularly in the mood for ceviche, ask your host to order you their Ceviche de Guaymas. Served in a tall glass combining fish or shrimp, pico de gallo, cucumber, radish, a generous serving of avocado and topped off with a splash of Zocalo hot sauce, it's an adventure of flavor. Come early on Sunday (or any day of the week) and you can easily pair it with a mimosa and enjoy a light brunch with your closest buddies.

Ay Caramba Mexican Restaurant
3032 Auburn Blvd.
Sacramento, CA 95821
(916) 550-2387

Rumor is that Ay Caramba may be the best Peruvian food in California, which obviously bodes well if ceviche is what you are hankering for. If you come to Ay Caramba, ordering their Ceviche Mixto is a must as it's a Peruvian classic. Intermixed with the ceviche are pieces of octopus, scallops, sweet potatoes and a strong hint of lime. For a classic beverage pairing, order their Chica morada, a sweet Peruvian beverage you'd be hard pressed to find anywhere else.
