What is the best alternative to a slice of apple pie? Try an apple pie cupcake. Icing on the Cupcake has earned a sweet spot in the hearts of Sacramento residents with its extensive menu of cupcakes available year round. One of its best is mom's apple pie. It's a classic family recipe that features apples baked into a homemade apple cider filling and topped with a crumble and icing on the Cupcake's signature heart. Originally opened in 2007 in Rocklin, Icing on the Cupcake has grown to include four locations in the greater Sacramento area and features over 40 flavors of cupcakes (12-15 served daily).

How about an apple pie popsicle? Dave Pops produces some truly unique popsicles that are available at different locations throughout Sacramento. He lists the current schedule on his website with regular stops at local farmers' markets. Through a process called duBle, developed by founder Dave Feldpausch, Dave Pops are like ice cream but do not utilize fats or dairy to achieve the ice cream-like texture. And the best part? They are low in calories and fat. Dave's apple pie oat crust contains 1/2 apple with a full serving of whole grain fiber to boot. How's that for an apple pie that won't leave you feeling like you cheated on your diet?
