Golf for 50 Cents This Weekend at Tahoe Course

TAHOE CITY, Calif. (AP) -- A golf course at Lake Tahoe is celebrating its centennial with 50-cent green fees through the weekend.

The Tahoe City Golf Course originally was called Tahoe Tavern Links when it became the first to open in the area in 1918.

The nine-hole layout in Tahoe City on the northwest shore of the lake later became a favorite for Hollywood entertainers when they performed in the area, including Sammy Davis Jr., Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Bob Hope and Bing Crosby

Golf course manager Bob Bonino told the Truckee Sun the courses that existed in California and Nevada back in the early 1900s were mostly private. He says the few public ones usually cost between 25 and 50 cents to play.

He says the throwback pricing through the weekend is a celebration of the old days.
