The Rio Linda Elverta Country Fair is back for the fourth year in a row! The family friendly event will be happening all day, filled with FREE activities including bounce houses, face painters, balloon twisters, a climbing wall, a human foosball exhibit, live entertainment, a lip sync contest, a free bike raffle (12 & Under), farm animals display AND a parade!

Yuba County is hosting the 16th Annual Yuba River Cleanup on Saturday, September 17, 2016! Last year, 135 volunteers picked up 30,780 pounds of trash and recyclables along the Yuba River.

Today the Rotary Club of Roseville is partnering with the City of Roseville to rehab Cresthaven Park to make it look brand new again!! Kids, high schoolers, and adults will be working together to rehab the park and do maintenance, painting, raking, laying new bark, cleaning play structures.

Calling all trekkies! Today you can Beam down to the California Automobile Museum as they welcome all lifeforms to Car Trek in celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Star Trek. The Museum will be transformed into a Starship of sorts complete with a BORG station, Starfleet officers, Kingon warriors and even a Fleet Bar. On this special one-day “auto-versary” event, Museum visitors are encouraged to get in the Star Trek spirit and come dressed in their favorite character costumes! They can also enjoy a family-fun mission adventure featuring some of the cars that have appeared in past episodes and movies.

Today hundreds of shoppers are expected to attend the 2016 Placer County Fruit & Veggie Fest a celebration of healthy living hosted by the Health Education Council. The annual event aims to encourage shoppers to improve their health by offering free health resources and education including tips on stretching food dollars at a farmers market, reading food labels and comparing unit prices. The event includes produce give-aways, games for kids and the opportunity to win several kids’ bikes and helmet sets!

MDA Fill the Boot Drive
It’s time to fill the boot today for MDA! The International Association of Firefighters has been partnering with the Muscular Dystrophy Association for over 60 years, raising over $275 million to find a cure for all of the MD diseases. Roseville Firefighters Local 1592 has been doing the Boot Drive for over 15 years, supporting local families that have someone suffering from MD. Their goal this year is to raise $70k over the two days!

This weekend the Vintage Bliss Marketplace Opens in Rancho Cordova! The marketplace will be open four days a month on the third Thursday of each month from Thursday through Sunday on 8,000 square foot. Nation’s Best Teacher
The White House recently honored a local teacher as one of nation’s best! Andy Kotko, a first-grade teacher at Mather Heights Elementary School, has been named by President Obama as one of the best math and science teachers in the country and was honored with the 2016 Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching, the highest recognition bestowed upon the nation’s math and science teachers. Kotko has twice been a finalist for this prestigious honor. He and 212 other winners from throughout the country will receive a $10,000 award from the National Science Foundation and travel to Washington, D.C. on Sept. 8.
