No typical salmon run: Fish spills across Alaska highway

JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) — Alaskans are always excited by salmon runs, unless it's across a highway.

A truck carrying salmon to a cannery in Alaska's capital city rolled Monday, spilling fish across most of the highway's lanes and backing up traffic for an hour and a half.

Juneau Police Chief Bryce Johnson responded with other officers and confirmed the fish left a stinky smell.

Police Lt. David Campbell says the number of fish spilled wasn't known, but workers who looked like fishermen in slickers cleaned salmon off Egan Highway.

The driver had minor injuries, but he wasn't taken to the hospital.
