Zebra reported missing from New York farm is found dead

CATSKILL, N.Y. (AP) — A zebra that was reported missing from a New York farm has been found dead.

State wildlife authorities investigating the death of 5-month-old Zula said Monday that the zebra might have fallen from a cliff in a hilly forest preserve near where it went missing.

Owner Richard Myer told the Times Union of Albany (http://bit.ly/1V63M8P ) that Zula was spooked by a branch hitting a barn Thursday at Bailiwick Animal Park and Riding Stables in Catskill, 30 miles south of the capital.

Myer says he had intended to board the animal at the stable. He spent Sunday driving back roads in wooded areas around Catskill looking for Zula, who was about the size of a large pony.

Volunteers had also joined in the search.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture is investigating.
