9am Topic: Right To End Our Lives?

Should we have the right to choose the way we die?

A 29-year-old woman who was diagnosed with a terminal form of cancer in her brain this year has decided that she is going to determine when to end her life.

Newly married Brittnay Maynard was told on January 1, 2014 by a doctor that persistent headaches she was experiencing were caused by the malignant tumor, according to People magazine. At first, she was told that she had maybe a decade to live, but in April, she was diagnosed with Stage 4 glioblastoma, which would likely kill her in six months.

Maynard then decided to take her own life on her own terms. She, her husband and parents moved from San Francisco to Oregon, which has death-with-dignity laws, People reports.

On November 1, the day after her birthday, she reportedly plans to take a pill that will painlessly end her life.
