Local Getaway!

THE "W"ow Factor

Speaking of local getaways, if you're considering a trip to San Francisco (or anywhere in the world for that matter) make sure you treat yourself to a stay at a W Hotel. On a recent jaunt to my favorite city, I decided to step outside the usual Union Square grid and check into the W San Francisco Hotel. It wasn't too far from the tourist-filled, cable car-lined streets of the square but far enough to make me feel like I was experiencing San Francisco for the first time and uncovering an area of the city that wasn't outed by all the travel publications. Ah, SoMa (South of Market) was like a breath of fresh air! Located less than a block from one of the most remarkable modern art museums in the world and only a few more blocks from the city's theater district, W San Francisco is a mecca for creative minds. And the hotel exudes that contemporary, dynamic vibe with both design and attitude.

My first impression upon stepping inside was that this place offered the best of both worlds -- the comfort and class of a four or five star hotel combined with the flash and pizzazz of a social hotspot. Whether you're looking to unwind with a couple cocktails (might I mention there are two bar areas to tempt W guests) or slide into your robe and slippers, the W San Francisco has something for every guest. Being the well-rounded person I am, I decided to partake in everything! Whether it was the panoramic views of the city or the inviting bed that resembled a cloud OR the bottle of chilled champagne that greeted me, a few hours locked inside my enormous room seemed like the only natural thing to do. And it was everything you can imagine!

But a girl has to eat and my champagne-filled stomach needed nourishment. But where to eat? Not to worry! I never even had to leave the cozy confines of the building! The hotel restaurant TRACE was packed with all types of eaters -- from locals trusting their intuition to tourists trying something new, from families enjoying a late-night dinner to party-goers just starting their adventure. TRACE prides itself in using fresh, locally-sourced sustainable ingredients and the cuisine carefully fuses the vibrant cultures of the Bay Area with the dedication to offering socially responsible food. My halibut with squash and cherry tomatoes was cooked to perfection. And if you're feeling adventurous, kick off your meal with the chicken liver mousse or braised pork shoulder. You won't be disappointed! Although TRACE labels them as "share" dishes, I managed to clean both plates. Unbuttoning my now much-tighter pants and crawling into bed sounded like the only proper way to end the night, and luckily my bed was just an elevator ride away.

Although I went to San Francisco, the only thing I experienced this time around was the W San Francisco and, my friends, it was worth it. Do yourself a favor and experience the W San Francisco or any W Hotel yourself!
