News: Vacaville Home Goes Up In Flames

VACAVILLE (CBS13) - Firefighters are cleaning up after a two-alarm fire destroyed a Vacaville home early Tuesday morning.

The home is on Juniper Street. Two people were asleep inside at the time and didn't realize the structure was already engulfed in flames. Neighbors spotted the flames and banged on the windows and got the residents out. Just minutes later, the roof of the home collapsed.

"I was laying in bed and I heard this big blast. I thought it was gunshots, honestly," said Jordan Whyel, neighbor. "I went downstairs and I saw the electrical wires bam, bam, bam, bam – looked like gunshots, but just electrical fire. Sure enough in five seconds it was up in smoke."

Crews are putting out flare-ups, whipped up by the breezy weather. Investigators believe the fire was accidental and appears to have started on the backside of the home -- possibly on the patio. Power lines and a power pole were damaged, but fortunately no other homes were damaged.

At one point, flames were 20 feet higher than the roof the home, say firefighters.
