Police Searching For Armed Thieves In South Sacramento

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - Two armed suspects are at large in a south Sacramento neighborhood after leading police on a high-speed chase.

Two people were seen breaking into a car at the Terracina Apartments in the 9200 block of Franklin Boulevard at around 6 a.m. Wednesday, said Elk Grove Police Dept. Public Information Officer Chris Trim. One of the suspects was standing watch while the other went inside and took a .25 caliber semi-automatic handgun and a backpack containing 50 rounds of ammunition. The two got into a car and drove off.

At 7:15 a.m., an Elk Grove police officer spotted the suspects and pursued their vehicle. CHP and Sacramento police officers joined in the pursuit. The chase ended at 35th Street and 26th Avenue near the pedestrian bridge over Highway 99. The suspects got out of the car and took off running.

Police found a backpack inside the vehicle containing the ammunition. The gun was not inside the car.

A perimeter has been established in the area where the suspects are believed to be hiding.

Multiple SWAT vehicle arrived in the area just after 9 a.m.
