PLEASANTON (CBS) – A judge has told a new mom to stay away from the Pleasanton Nordstrom after leaving her 11-week-old twins inside her SUV while she shopped.
Amanda Nejat of Danville was arrested in February for leaving the children in her Escalade while she visited the store at the Stoneridge Shopping Center.
Prosecutors said security video showed she was inside the store for about 40 minutes. A concerned shopper saw the children and called mall security and police.
Nejat entered a no contest plea, and is required to pay a fine, take 26 parenting classes, attend counseling and allow police to check in on her at random. She is also banned from the Pleasanton Nordstrom store.
Nejat’s attorney said such “stay away orders” are not that uncommon in plea agreements.
“It was something that the district attorney requested,” said Attorney Louis Goodman. “We were certainly agreeable to it.”
Nejat’s children were not hurt. If the 46-year-old follows the terms of the agreement for the next two years, she will not have a criminal conviction on her record.
