hithere Baby Natalia, Chapter 3

She’s one week old! Holy moly! Time flies when you are having fun! I can’t tell you how exciting these last several days have been for Steve and I…we are over the moon!

It’s amazing how much joy such a little person can bring into your life! Everyone warned me life would be different, but I don’t think I truly understood just how much…now I do.

This is an exciting time for Steve and I, and we appreciate all of the kind comments and emails.

I know Tina and Lisa have been keeping you up-to-date with details and pictures of our little Natalia Large, but if you don’t mind…I’d like to add a few more!

Over the last week, Steve and I have been trying to get to know Natalia…trying to distinguish her hungry cry from her dirty diaper cry, her likes and dislikes, and of course her sleep schedule…or lack there of! Ha!

Based on her facial expressions, I’ve learned….

 Baby Natalia, Chapter 3

She LIKES the boppy!

 Baby Natalia, Chapter 3

The jury is still out on the swing.

 Baby Natalia, Chapter 3

So fresh and so clean! She liked her first bath!

 Baby Natalia, Chapter 3

She LOVES being swaddled!

I can also tell you she hates getting her diaper changed!

Baby is asleep now so all you moms know what that means…it’s time for me to sleep too!

Thanks again for letting us share these pictures with you!

  • Caroline

So happy for you both, congrats. Enjoy Natalia while she’s little. Amazing as parents, we just can’t wait for our children to walk and talk only to turn around and tell them, as toddlers, to keep quiet and ‘sit down’. As a Nana of four, trust me, Natalia is a cutie worth investing in a shot gun to keep the boys at bay. ^_^

Congratulations! She is absolutely beautiful…she will have your and Steve trained soon…the only advise I can give new parents…if you have done EVERYTHING (changed her diaper, fed her) and nothing works, play the music you listened to while you were pregnant…I listened to Bob Marley when I was pregnant, and when all else failed, Bob Marley didn’t.

Just when you think you can never love more… you will know you can love more. Congratulations!

  • Karen Spitzer

My husband always says that babies are the God’s way of telling you, you were getting waaaay to much sleep before! Yes, they do, indeed change your life forever. And of course, she loves being swaddled – she’s in leopard!! Just try to remember as much of her youth as possible, and embrace every moment – good and bad – as a gift! And would you like your bare bottom to hit the cold air, LOL! Yes, when she sleeps, you sleep, that is a necessity. Congratulations to you and Mr. Large.

  • Donna Sims

I have never seen two people look happier…She will be getting louder pretty quick…I love it at first they are like little kittens with the tiny little cries, then before a couple of months flies by they become experts at making Mommy and Daddy respond to what ever they want. It is amazing how quickly we all became Mommy and Daddy robots, and happy to do so…Have Fun! And one day they become the loudest screamer on the planet, but they are yours…And well that’s just the part of the fun of it all…

  • Cathy

wouldn’t you know that you would some how find a leopard print for the little one. just to say congrats to you and steve. it is amazing being a mom too. enjoy the special moments that go along and take plenty of pics and notes to leave her in future. i can see steve when she has her first date ha ha !

  • Paula

My niece HATED being dirty. But hated to be messed with when we changed her. LOL babies are so much fun. I sure hope you get the rest you need. It’s important to find the place she likes best. Like the swing. Or a bassinett. Anywhere you know she will sleep. That is a good thing.

  • Brad Ramos

    Ju & Steve,
I am so happy for you both, she is adorable!! I remember my 1st (22 yrs) to my 4th (2 yrs) as if it were yesterday, everyday is an adventure that will either frustrate you or make you laugh un-controllably (Ju does this anyway!!).
The both of you will enjoy every minute of each day with anticipation of what you will see her do next. Feel free to check out my girls on my facebook if you would like. Bradford Ramos, I will look to add you if you don’t mind so I can watch your cutie grow older.
Ju already has the right idea of getting some rest when Natalia is sleeping (cat naps), even if they are short, you still feel rested some how!!…..LOL
Enjoy your family everyday as if your still a kid yourself,

  • Bruna

?! . Yet, knowing this is how the OB acts, she feels all itvcimized and sad about her experience when inevitably she ends up with all the interventions she said she didn’t want. I am always sorry when ANYONE has a bad birth experience, but if you insist on playing with a dog you KNOW bites, through evidence and intuition, demonizing the dog is less healing than examining your part in why you might not have made better choices for yourself, honouring your need for better support. Yes, sometimes women ARE totally victims of their doulas and doctors, this is true. Sometimes even the gentlest seeming of dogs bite for no reason. But is seems to me, you had very fair warning.Yes, clearly a handbag would have been better in this situation, because you sadly had a bad experience and have nothing to really show for the money you spent but a handful of bad memories and complaints. A handbag, however, will never call you on your resonsibility to own your own choices. Guess I ain’t no handbag. I truly hope you had the integrity to talk about your ire to your doula before making this fiasco totally public. There are others out there who might deeply appreciate the type of care she offers, but who may not choose it now because you, in anger, have played up all the bad stuff. This is why I don’t badmouth OBs, because I have many women who WANT aggressive interventions, and appreciate this approach. This is their choice, and it is my job to support choice. I truly wish you the best on your road to healing from this experience. I wish it had been better for you. Women deserve to be empowered, loved, and nurtured in birth and postpartum.

You asked many important real-life quoitsens we all confront as an individual human being and also as a nation in a thoughtful and honest narrative. We all should acknowledge first that abortion is a “hard” ethical, social, economic, and political issue which will not grant us an easy, clear-cut answer. We should remain humble about our position – even when we (have to) take one. Unlike other “civilized” but vastly secular Europe, abortion is a much more controversial and politically divisive issue in America, because, as you pointed out here, it is intimately linked to many people’s religious values, which they also feel are under increasing attack. With some sense of tragedy, I agree with you on that many Christians are voting for the conservative politicians because progressives “mock” their religious convictions. It is also an irony to see those conservative politicians who chant “pro-life” slogans are often the first ones who want to cut less than minimal communal support we have for the most vulnerable and defenseless; among them is a young, single mom who might have preferred to keep her baby given our social and economic support plus less stigma. When one cannot afford a pro-life, one’s choice for abortion is not a real choice based on one’s freedom and conscience. It is as much of a social, economic issue as an ethical.

  • Jagdeep

I completely agree with all 10 of your ngogestiuss. I have two girls age’s 11 and 9 and they both are well aware of their parts and boys parts too, and what they are all for. My mother talked to be about sex when I was younger, but I took it a step further. Not only did I apply all 10 steps into our life, but we have had them both watch a few movies here and there with a man and a women having intercourse. The question was raised by my husband and I about letting our girls watch scary movies with people getting injured and or killed, but then not letting them watch two people making love. So then a few days later, we let them watch a love scene, but then paused the scene after and talked about it. We feel that it’s important not only for our girl’s future, but ours as well to be communicating on such a level that nothing is left out. Two yours ago I talked about the difference between sodomy and anal sex. A couple of years before that talked about rape, peer pressure, strangers and other people who are not strangers, but who are capable of sex crimes as well, for reference. I want them to be so informed that they will not be surprised, clueless or unsure as what to do or who to talk too when they get to that point in there lives. In ways I feel like it’s too much information, but that’s what I feel like I have to do to help them not just survive, but live well. I want them to know that they do have choices and that with those choices comes responsibility as well as consequences for those choices made in every aspect of their lives. Yes, communication about sex is a must with my daughters and they both have told me that they love me for that. I planted the seeds, I nurture them and now I will watch them grow.

Help me understand, Dr. Rob. What’s the deeffrince between the patient you describe under scenario 2 (someone experiencing acute exacerbations which require temporary pharmacological control) and someone who is using the medication as an inappropriate quick fix? Dr. Rob: If a client has an onset of panic attacks or depression that incapacitates them (i.e., can’t get out of the house and therefore reisks losing her job), most psychiatrists wouldn’t see this as a quick fix, especially if the client begins to address the problem in therapy after they’ve been pulled out of the abyss. By contrast, many psychiatrists complain that they have patients who come to them at the slightest negative emotion. They can’t feel frustrated at work, their spouses are annoying, they don’t want to EVER feel sad. These patients are usually denied medicine or simply placated with it and need to be working through this stuff. They treat the medicine as a Magic Bullet, the cure-all of everything wrong in life.

Darger Family,Glad to see another fmliay putting a positive light on the principle under the public spotlight. I too have a plural fmliay with my two wives and (almost) 12 children. One of my wives is a direct descendent of Lorin C. Woolley the only on in the principle if I understand correctly though her parents were (are) staunch LDS. I’m looking forward to obtaining and reading your book. I already have a copy of the first and only Mormon Fundamentalist magazine with the wives/mothers picture on it I wish there would’ve been more.I pray for the Lord’s protection in your personal and business lives now that you’ve come out publicly. I’ve been willing to do it, but my wives have been retiscent. And, given my other outspokenness in public forums, newspapers, and my running a few Mormon Fundamentalist discussion groups, I wonder how much your efforts will sway the public in your/our favor. But then, perhaps the experiences that will result, good and bad, will be mostly for your benefit. Rub off a few more rough edges! I know I could probably use it!Well, good on you folks. I enjoyed the video I watched of The Mighty Sequoyah . Very talented, great music and lyrics, great crescendo from the beginning of the song to the end. Best to you all! If we can help, let us know.Clan HansenChris, Michelle, Candace and fmliay

I used to work with a woman who hated our mutual boss (who I slkiided also). And one day she was really indignant. I talked to Bill, she said, and he said he thought I didn’t like him! He told you that? Yeah! Why would he say that? Well, you don’t like him, I said. But he doesn’t know that! I thought it was funny how upset she was to be accused or something that was true. She seemed to actually think he was doing something wrong by believing (correctly) that she didn’t like him.I don’t think people either like me or don’t. Most of my peers didn’t like me when I was a kid, but I think most of my coworkers think I’m all right. I’m sure they gripe about me behind my back, like I do about them, but that’s normal. I haven’t known many adults (maybe one or two) who have made their dislike of me obvious enough for me to notice, which is just as well.

Tequila.I am willing to bet you mreirad someone you were sexually satisfied with. Now it’s years later, you are still growing sexually (a good thing) and her sexual growth does not compliment yours. Very common, my friend… it is the fine print of monogamy. Before setting a goal to draw out your wife’s inner vixen you should decide ahead of time that it’s ok if she’s not into it. She may never be.The fact that you purchased a strap-on and have used it together is a good sign! At a bare minimum it means she’s willing to work with you. But I hear you, it would be better if she was really into it!Communication is the key, but timing is the door. When she’s upbeat and feeling sexy (a little alcohol doesn’t hurt), or soaking in a post coital hormone rush, tactfully introduce topics of new sexual interest. If you can, frame it in terms of what you want rather than what you’d like her to do. For example, if you want her to play a more dominant role don’t say that specifically… instead tell her that YOU are interested in being the submissive sometimes. The difference may seem insignificant, but it casts her part as your benefactor rather than your subordinate. A subtle psychology.Being a dominant player in the bedroom requires a certain self assuredness, especially if that role is not generally yours. Anything you can do to prop up her self confidence will help you.Encourage her to dress the part. Take her shopping, or point her to a website, and condone her purchase of anything she thinks will make her feel sexy in the bedroom. Outward appearance, the way in which we believe others see us, plays a big role in how we act around those people.Positive feedback. When she plays the new role let her know how great it made you feel and how incredibly fucking HOT she is. Criticism (even constructive) or correction spells disaster. If she needs a little course correction, save it until she’s more comfortable in the new role.Give and take. You want her to change in some way that benefits you… consider what changes she might like to see in you and make a sincere effort to please her.Be patient. Wait for her to express herself sexually and don’t be pushy. That doesn’t mean that you can’t drop subtle hints every now and then though.Compromise. She may be willing to meet you half way… take it. Love it. Heap the praises on her and hope her sexual growth begins to move in a direction that compliments yours.Good luck G! And for what it’s worth… I still have not seen Jane’s new shoes.

El Guapo: You had me confused with James. There is a 16 boliiln dollar industry called porn. And then there are the likes of Marilyn Manson, whose recent tasty offering was picked up on on this very blog. Deny the sexualisation of violence against women if you like, but you’ll be wrong, and you’ll look pretty stupid. In this country, if a black person attacks a white person without warning, there may or may not be a racial motivator, but it will not be part of a broader pattern of endemic physical and political violence against the white people by black people. It seems as well as wishing to deny the victimisation of women by men, you also wish to deny the victimisation of black people by white people. Your dismissal of what women and black people say about their experiences is pretty objectionable. Why does it make you so uncomfortable to face the reality? Your state of denial is tantamount to an endorsement of perpetuating the state of affairs. You and people like you are part of the problem. It is not women (or black people, or gay people) that are bringing the issue of gender (or race, or sexuality) into discussions of violence. It is the people who choose their victims in a systematic way along these lines. Blaming people for stating the facts about this, however unpalatable you find them, seems a little bit childish, if you don’t mind me saying.I think the Lady makes some very good points. While you could psychologically characterise all violence as defensive, I do think that some violence is purely or largely sadistic (which is why we call such things hate crimes). The majority of violence between men does not constitute a hate crime. It is not done because of the victim’s gender, but because of some threat or slight perceived by the perpetrator to be committed by the victim. On the subject of mugging, the violence is done for financial gain, rather than hatred against a particular group per se. It may be that females are perceived as easier targets, or it may be that males (who are less likely to be in low-paid or part-time employment) are more frequently perceived to be lucrative victims. I would have to know the data on the gender patterns of victims and perpetrators to be able to comment further, but I’d be surprised if gender didn’t come into it indirectly.Where you are getting the message that anyone is saying that violence against men is acceptable, I cannot imagine. We are simply objecting to hate crimes. That doesn’t mean we endorse other crimes. Seriously, what planet are you *on*??
